About Us
The late Seiju Ifuku, founder of Rainbow Drive-In was born 1915. He was raised in Okinawa and moved to Hawaii where he joined the army where he learned to cook while serving with the famous 100th Battalion during WWII. He participated in campaigns in Italy and France. After the war, he worked at the famous Kapiolani Drive-In, now, the Wailana Coffee Shop. After leaving Kapiolani Drive-In, he and his wife, the late Ayako Ifuku, opened a smaller version of the restaurant called Kalakaua Drive-In, currently the site of Cheeseburgers in Paradise, at the corner of Ala Moana Boulevard and Kalakaua Avenue.
